Were Ancient Romans Combatting Climate Change?

Although the Roman Empire reigned 2,000 years ago, there is evidence that many efforts to preserve the environment were used.

Romans used passive solar technology. They constructed buildings and structures based on the orientation of the sun’s path. In these buildings, they utilized a great deal of glass to allow the sun to heat homes rather than burning natural resources such as wood.

Today, we have done many things to save the earth and attempt to reverse some of the damage pollution has caused. Solar panels are used throughout the country to efficiently power homes without using natural gas.

It is interesting to note that modern day struggles and the search for new solutions to our problems may have already been experienced, devised and used by ancient civilizations. The attempt to combat the effects of climate change, a problem central to our society, was already attempted by the Romans in ways such as solar technology.
